The Neuroscience of Emotions - Philippe Goldin
Obviously nothing more entertaining than a seminar on the Neuroscientific perspective on emotions. I'll get the popcorn. But apparently, Google has an internal program to develop emotional intelligence and mindfulness. "Search Inside Yourself" is a "homegrown mindfulness-based emotional intelligence" course.
Their eventual goal is to make the course and its contents available to the rest of the world. Another great Google initiative. This seminar is from the Google Tech Talks and is done by Philippe Goldin from the Applied Neuroscience Group in the Psychology Department at Standford University. It is there that he studies the effects of mindfulness. What is the role of emotions?
Why do we have them and what do they do? And most importantly, why do we have the emotions we have and how can we steer them to more beneficial emotions? The Search Inside Yourself program seeks to develop psychological flexibility and well-being via emotional awareness, mindfulness, self-awareness, self-regulation, motivation, empathy, social skills The assumption being that people with high levels of emotional intelligence function better. There's even a Q&A at the end.
